LatCrit Student Scholar Program (SSP)

LatCrit Student Scholar Program (SSP)

Each year, thanks to the generosity of our contributing schools, the LatCrit Student Scholar Program offers students pursuing intellectual agendas in race, ethnicity, and the law the chance to join the LatCrit community. In order to be considered for the program, applicants are asked to submit a portfolio of materials, including a previously unpublished paper, a statement of purpose, and a curriculum vitae. A panel of distinguished LatCrit faculty from around the United States and elsewhere examines these student portfolios and selects three to five students to be designated LatCrit Student Scholars.

Student scholars are welcomed into the LatCrit community in four ways:

1. Each Student Scholar is invited to attend the annual LatCrit conference and present his or her work, and receives a scholarship covering registration, lodging, and group meals;

2. Each Student Scholar’s paper is eligible for publication in the conference symposium issue;

3. Each Student Scholar is matched with one or more academic mentor(s) whose work lies in an area of the Scholar’s interest, and who will work with the Scholar to help the Scholar advance his/her scholarly and activist agenda;

4. Each Student Scholar receives a travel stipend to partially subsidize travel expenses to and from the annual LatCrit Conference.

Sponsors of the LatCrit Student Scholar Program include the University of Baltimore School of Law, the University of California – Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall), the University of Florida School of Law, the University of Miami School of Law, and Santa Clara University School of Law.
